jump bikes need advanced shocks and frames
Building your fall biking better. Sport E-biking requires these things that you need for protection and handling. So it’s good to make sure you’ve got the needed gear. Here’s some good advice before you dive in.

Rugged Sport E-Biking – The Jump Bike Frame

You can’t do this with a ten-speed or commuter e-bike. Jump bikes have a shorter wheelbase and smaller diameter wheels than modern mountain bikes. Originally this frame came for use by stunt riding when a true organic street sport went professional. The way these bikes are used is similar to skate boarders doing stunts, tricks and a lot of jumping. With frames that are smaller, sturdier and lowered center of gravity. They are built for maneuverability, making it hold on to the ground even through the tightest turns. They are great for dodging and sustaining hits from obstacles.

Below are some must-have gear that you should have on us before heading out to the road, path or park.

1. Head Protection
Amazon Example
Protect your brain. You can have a concussion from a fall or collision. So wear a good helmet. Dirt jumping comes with inevitable bail outs. Level up your riding cap to a pro helmet for sport e-biking. You can choose between goggles or an open-face helmet. Pro helmets are aerodynamic and so they use visors. Using goggles and no visor allows more cooling air flow to your head.

2. Shoulder Pads
Amazon Example
The second most likely part of your body to make contact in a crash or bail-out is the shoulders. There is light weight padding or protective garments good for commuters and tarmac trails. Or Pro sport shoulder pads. You need to protect your shoulder from injury or just minor scrapes and scratches. Stunt biking crashes can easily land you on your shoulder. That can break your clavicle, shoulder blade, 301-804-7406 or any combination of bones.

3. Knee Pads
Amazon Example

Shield your knees with a pair of knee pads. It’s painful to bang a knee dodging a rock. You can do more damage in a simple wipe out on the trail or in sport biking.

4. Flat Pedals
Amazon Example

You never know when you must eject from your E-bike in an impending crash. Flat pedals are easier for fast exits off of the bike. Pedals with gripping tongs keep feet in place to maximize safe power to the pedals for racing. For stunt riding it’s very different from racing sport. Your feet need freedom of movement for jump sport biking tricks. Flat pedals help you do stunts, twisted body positions, with safer landings. Pedal grips can bind up a foot at just the wrong position to cause a crash or an ankle injury. Flat shoes with stiff soles and good grip complete the set. Sure footed ness will keep enough power in your pedal strokes. Stay full control of your E-bike when you leap out of the half pipe. You will also have a feel for your traction when riding through gravel and dirt.

5. Gloves
Amazon Example

Get some leather gauntlets to protect your hands against scrapes and broken digits. You have a wide variety for different sports. There’s rough dirt, street, concrete skate parks, and and race tracks. Each require a balance between thickness, freedom of movement, and grip to consider. Whatever is best for your slip-free control and grip.

Hitting the dirt

Heading to your local dirt jumps for the first time can be intimidating, but knowing you’re prepared gives all the confidence to perform.

Talk to other riders and bring a friend along for backup in case you get jacked up.

Try Out Your New Sport E-Biking Gear

If the area you’re riding has a pump track where you can warm up your muscles, take a few laps around to check fit and function.

Take the time to get warmed up to your equipment. Get used to the feel of your E-bike, pumping rollers, and hitting the berms to maintain speed without pedaling.

Transitioning motocross from gas to E-bike doesn’t mean burning your bike for every event. Jump frame bikes and motorbikes take damage differently. Circuit boards in the controller can be damaged by vibration and heat. The brushless hub motor can be ruined by dust. Dust can also worm its way through the shaft of a mid drive motor. At least there’s no failure due to dust in the fuel and air systems to contend with. E-vehicles have typical electronics issues. Gas can leak and explode. Battery stacks in E-bike battery packs can short out or catch fire too.
The jury is still out as to how much vibration and heat are likely to damage and degrade battery packs. But it seems that battery failure or a yanked out cable are the top failure modes of sport E-biking.
Push pin electric cable connectors can short out or corrode if wet. Crimp connections can wiggle loose. Advances in E-Bike frame design is working out these weaknesses. Internal batteries and wiring help a great deal. Other mechanical problems are common between vehicle types. Brakes, shift cables, tires and frames. So there’s no reason why everything that can be done today with gas motor and trick bikes, can’t be done with E-Bikes available for sale now.

Jump E-biking Tips

When you’re coming up to a jump keep your body in a neutral position. Relax with elbows and knees bent and your center of gravity in the middle of your bike.
When you go into a transition, pump your body with the lip and follow its edge keeping equal pressure on the front and rear end of your E-bike. That way you don’t get bucked backward.
Spot your landing
Looking down from the air, bring your bike up into your body, and mentally focus on where you want to land and how.
It’s best to let your legs and arms absorb some of the impact when you touch down.

See what happens at your available local dirt jumps. Find a time to really hone skills. If your dirt jump park has a mulch pit, take advantage of it as confidence building way to progress to start going bigger.

The same movement you’ve been working on, works the same a little bit faster. Stay loose and aware in the air and you’ll master the big jumps in no time.

E-Bikes can race in every way that motorcycles can. From a Gran Tour over Mont Blanc, Motocross, to taking a twisted leap out a half pipe. E-Bikes are the future. Long endurance tours still measure battery life and economizing techniques. This is unique to electric bikes for now. Battery powered bikes will soon out-range gas powered. Power storage problems are becoming less of an issue as green tech leaps forward to meet e-vehicle buyer expectations.
